2 Year-old Girl Hit by Car in Topeka a Reminder to Kansas City Parents: Never Leave Your Child Unattended by the Street

If you are a parent in Kansas or Missouri you have surely had your share of safety scares with your child.  How many of you have had your child get into a situation and the first thing you think is, "I assumed they'd know better"?  Well, the fact is, most kids don't know better.  That's what seperates children from mature, intelligent adults.  The only way they can know betters is if we as parents are teaching them the differnce between right and wrong when it comes to safety and protecting themselves from danger.

In Topeka, Kansas on Sunday, an accident happened that is every parents worst nightmare.  A two year-old girl was struck by a car on the 1200 block of S.W. Buchanan when she ran out in the street, trying to cross.  The little girl had been standing off the curb behind a parked car when she darted out into traffic and ran smack into the back quarter panel of a car.  The little girl was unattended at the time.  Police found no fault with the driver, who says the didn't see the girl and didn't have time to stop.  The girl was taken to a hospital, but thankfully she was not seriously injured in the accident.

As Kansas City Child Accident and Injury Attorneys, we urge you to sit down with your child and go over possilbe dangerous situations they may face while simply playing outside.  This includes where to play so they can be supervised at all times and knowing the safety rules of the street.

  • Look both ways and again before crossing.
  • Always cross a street at a corner or in a designated crosswalk.

Child Pedestrian Safety
Never assume your child will use common sense.  If you haven't taught your child properly, there is now way for them to know unless something bad happends.  Protect your child at all times.  Never let them play unsupervised.
