Accident involving fertilizer truck kills one, injures another on Highway 50 in Pettis County, Smithton, MO

This morning, outside of Smithton, Mo., a deadly vehicle accident claimed the life of one person and seriously injured another.  The wreck, which happened near Route W on Highway 50 in Pettis County, occured around 6:30 this morning when a fertilizer truck collided with another car.  It has been reported that the survivor of the crash was air lifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The names of the victims have not been released.  Pettis County officials closed off part of Highway 50 for a few hours this morning while the wreckage was safely cleaned up.

Each day, there are early morning accidents that could have easily been prevented by simply practicing attentive driving skills.  The cause of this accident inparticular hasn't been released yet but there are a lot of things you can do to make sure your commute to work is a safe commute.  Make sure you finish texting and cell phone calls before you leave the house.  It's no secret that today's technologies present numerous distractions that can keep our attention off the road, but getting to work or home safely should be the number one priority.  Those texts can wait.
