Are You an under 25 Worker in Kansas or Missouri? Reports Show Young Workers Suffer More Injuries

At Roswold Law Group, our Kansas and Missouri Worker Compenstation Lawyers are always looking out for new information to help protect laborers young and old in our area.

The CDCs National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) issued a report this year indicating that young workers are more likely to be injured than their more older and more mature co-workers.

According to the report, workers between the ages of 15 and 24 are twice as likely to be injured on the job than older workers.  Based on data collected from 1998 through 2007, the report found that an estimated 7.9 million non-fatal injuries to younger workers required emergency department treatment.  According to the report, that was two times higher than workers over 25.  The report found that the highest non-fatal injuries occurred with workers who were between the ages of 18 and 19.

The fatality rate for younger workers was slightly less than those over 25.  Between 1998 and 2007, 5719 young workers were killed or about 572 per year. That is a fatality rate of 3.6 per 100,000 workers, compared with 4.4 for people 25 and older.

If you have suffered a work related injury in Missouri or Kansas  and under the age of 25, you may be entitled to benefits from your employer, even if you're only a part-time worker.  Contact an experienced Kansas City Personal Injury Attorney to find out your rights.
