Child Athletic Injuries: How to Prevent Them

As the weather warms up, children are growing anxious to get outside and get active.  With all this athletic activity, it is extremely important for parents to make sure that your child knows how to prevent a sports-related injury.  Prevention may make the difference between healthy activity and serious, long-term injuries that will impede your child's ability to grow and develop and even continue to play the sports they love.

Health News Digest sheds light on the prevalence of sports-related injuries that affect American high school students every year.  Approximately 1 in every 10 of America's 7 million high school students will experience a sports-related injury this year.  In addition, at least 8,000 high school athletes will have to be rushed to the emergency room.

The National Athletic Trainers' Association urges parents to consider the following things:

-Does your family environment maintain a positive stance on your child's sport?  If not, could this be negatively affecting your child's performance, and therefore, placing your child at risk of injury?
-Is your child being properly nourished both at school and at home?
-Did your child get a physical this year?  Is he or she cleared by a doctor to be physically active?
-How qualified are the athletic officials your child will be dealing with?  Does your child's athletic personnel have an emergency plan to safely handle sports-related injuries and accidents?
-Provide your child's medical information to the school, and even the first person to tend to your child's injury, the coach.

Whether it is physical education classes or an organized sport, consider the above questions before your child engages in physical activity because they may help you protect your child from a long-term or life-threatening sports accident.

The Kansas City child injury attorneys at Roswold Law Group provide a wealth of information to Missouri and Kansas residents, and we can help victims of child injuries or accidents because we understand the tremendous difficulties presented by those situations.  We are dedicated to helping child injury victims get back on their feet and get the justice and compensation they deserve.
