Avoid rain related injury car accidents: Tips for bad weather driving

The past few days have seen some difficult driving conditions as the Kansas City area and surrounding suburbs have been pounded by rain.  While the rain will eventually dry up, it's never a bad time to bone up on your severe weather driving techniques.  So, whether you're heading to work to school or are just our running errands.  Here are some helpful tips to help you adjust to the weather and get to where you're going safely and avoiding any possible injury accidents.

  1. SLOW DOWN.  Speed limits are posted assuming ideal conditions.  When the conditions are wetter, slow down a bit and make sure you're following the two second rule, making sure two seconds pass before you arrive at the same spot as the person in front of you.
  2. USE HEADLIGHTS.  Yes, even in the daylight.  It may seem pointless, but anything you can do to stand out in the rain, the better.
  3. AVOID DISTRACTIONS.  This includes turning off your cell phone, keeping the volume down on your radio and not eating while driving.
  4. MAINTENANCE.  Make sure your wind shield wipers are working properly and tires are inflated to proper levels.
  5. PULL OVER AND WAIT.  If the downfall of rain is making it impossible to see the vehicle in front of you or is seriously hampering any visibility, pull over and wait it out until it lightens up.
  6. STAY INFORMED.  Check the news before you leave in the morning for traffic and weather reports and try and avoid parts of town that may be getting standing water on streets or  highways.

The Kansas and Missouri injury accident lawyers of the Roswold Law Group hope that you practice safe driving techniques in good weather and in bad so that the roads remain as safe as we can possibly keep them.
