On Saturday, a 19 year-old man was killed in a two vehicle accident on Missouri Highway 291 in Odessa, Missouri. The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. when one vehicle, traveling south on the highway apparently tried to make a u-turn. When the car crossed the center line of the highway it pulled out in the path of another car and the collision happened. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was killed in the crash while his passenger suffered serious injury and was taken to a hospital.
While the cause of this crash is unknown at this time, there are many reason collisions this late can happen. Among them, alcohol is a large factor in late night collisions, there so far is no indication either driver was drinking in this accident.
Distracted and inattentive driving is almost always involved. Especially this late at night, it's easy to feel alone on the road, but it's important to remember that it's in these times when fatigue is setting in and our senses may not be what they would normally be; that we need to be extra careful.
