Bullying In Schools: Is Your Child Protected?

Late last week, an 8-year old boy in Houston, Texas attempted to take his own life.  The young student, who also suffered from Dyslexia, had been targeted by the same bullies for months, when finally the bullies pulled down his pants in front of the entire class.  The teacher handled the situation by sending the boy out into the hall.  That is when he found a balcony and jumped off of it to the ground below.  Five students and two teachers witnessed the incident.  To learn more about this incident, click here. 

Bullying is a problem that only gets worse when parents and teachers do not take it upon themselves to look for warning signs early.  Between 2001-2005, it was reported that 34 Missouri students committed suicide.  ABC News also reports that at least 30% of students will be the target of bullies at some point in their lifetime.  Suicidal thoughts often materialize in notes or even uncomfortable comments that are often overlooked or disregarded.  When these cries for help are ignored, young children will often think that no one cares.
