Can Cell Phones Help Enhance Driving Performance in Kansas and Missouri?

Look through any of our past news articles or blogs and you will see many articles that detail the dangers of driving and cell phone usage.  Now, researchers at the University of Kansas claim  cell phones may actually help drivers in certain driving situations.

The study measured drivers who were asked to drive a 30 minute course that was considered boring - no turns, just staring at a long road - much like you might see in western Kansas.  The drivers were tested at the beginning of the course and at the end.  What researchers found was that at the end of the course, when driver fatigue might be an issue, those drivers that held cell phone conversations actually performed better.

So what could cause this positive impact when all other studies say that cell phone usage while driving is dangerous?  Well, it appears that one of the other causes of accidents, driver fatigue, may be averted by cell phone use.  Researchers believe that on a long drive the act of communicating to another person may just be the jolt a drowsy driver needs.  Unlike listening to the radio or a CD, a phone conversation is an active psychological experience that causes a general arousal in the driver, and that arousal appears to enhance driver performance.

While the lawyers at Roswold Law Group are encouraged by this study, we also would like to caution that this study is relevant only in certain driving situations.  As experienced Kansas City Auto Accident Attorneys, we see the very real and devastating results of drivers who are too distracted by their cell phones to properly operate their vehicles.  Remember, no phone call or text message is worth a life, so let's keep our Kansas and Missouri drivers safe by refraining from cell phone usage when behind the wheel.

If you or a loved one has suffered a serious injury in an auto accident in Kansas or Missouri, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses.  Contact the Kansas City Personal Injury Attorneys of Roswold Law Group.  With over 15 years of experience in Auto Injury Accidents, we may be able to assist you through this difficult time.  Call our office today to set up a free consultation.
