Civilian Seriously Injured when Hit by Car while Working at Kansas City DUI Checkpoint

There are many civillians who go out of their way, working for police and fire crews just to lend an extra hand to the brave men and women who work to keep our streets safe.  This can sometimes be a dangerous job-- not just for the civillian, but for the police men and women as well.

A civilian was seriously injured while working with KCPD during a DUI Checkpoint at the 7600 block of Troost Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. During a traffic stop, police asked a motorist for his driver's license when the motorist hit the gas and tried to flee. The vehicle hit the victim with the car, landing the man on top of the hood of the fleeing car.  The civillian worker was thrown from the vehicle near 82nd street and Troost Ave.

The driver immediately accelerated, pulled out of the line and struck the civilian member of the KCPD. The man landed on the hood of the vehicle after impact, at which time the driver continued to accelerate and flee the area.

The KCPD worker eventually fell off near 82nd Street and Troost Avenue. The victim, a civilian member of the KCPD who was assisting with the DUI checkpoint, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
