Friends don't let friends drive drunk. In upstate New York, at least in one case, daughters don't let mothers drive drunk. Jamie HIcks, a 49-year-old mother was traveling in her car with her two children when her 12-year-old daughter had enough of Hick's driving. The daughter, who suspected her mother was intoxicated, called police from their vehicle to report that her mother was driving drunk. Smart kid.
Police stopped the vehicle and tested Hicks, who had a blood alcohol level of 0.18, almost twice the legal limit in the state of New York. The mother was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Hicks was arraigned and released on $2,000 bond, but faces felony charges because of a new law which makes it a felony to drive drunk with minors in the vehicle.
In this case the outcome was positive, with the removal of a drunk driver from the road. Obviously, the message of drinking and driving didn't make a difference to the mother, but certainly the daughter should be applauded for turning her mother into authorities.
