Why are Deadly Single Car Crashes on the Rise in Kansas City?

Think you are safest when driving by yourself in Kansas City?  Not necessarily, according to the Kansas City Police Department.   The department just released statistics regarding deadly accidents in our area and found not only a slight increase in fatal accidents, but also noted an upward trend of single car accidents resulting in a fatality.  In 2010 there were 68 fatal accidents in Kansas City, with 29 of those being single car crashes where the driver lost control of his vehicle in an accident.  Of the 29 single car crashes, 17 of those were attributed to the driver being impaired.

So what is going on with the other 12 fatalities?   Well, according to Police Chief James Corwin, the trend is concerning.  The 12 other accident causes were listed as "distracted", so there is really no way to tell what really happened.  Also, since there were no other people or vehicles involved, police were often left guessing as to what might have happened.

One of the main concerns for police is the issue of distracted driving.  Phone calls, texing, and even GPS devices are all common causes of accidents.

At Roswold Law Group our attorneys regularly work with cases involving distracted drivers.  Did you know that during a quick check of your cell phone your car can travel the length of a football field at highway speeds?  As experienced Kansas City Auto Accident Lawyers, we recognize how dangerous distracted driving can be and encourage all of our Kansas and Missouri drivers to pull over if you need to make a phone call, send a text message or even plug in information into your GPS device.  It could be your own life you are saving.

If you or someone you love has suffered a serious injury in a car accident caused by a distracted driver in Kansas or Missouri, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses.  Contact the experienced Kansas City Personal Injury Lawyers of Roswold Law Group.

With over 15 years of experience in Auto Injury Accidents and Motorcycle Injury Accidents, we may be able to help you through this difficult time.  Call us today to set up a free consultation to discuss your personal injury claim.
