Planning to buy a Lexus anytime soon? Maybe you already bought one in the last year or so. If you fit into these categories, listen up. The Toyota Motors company issued a statement on Monday that they are suspending sales of the Lexus sedan for at least the next three weeks because of a malfunctioning component in the vehicles' steering computer system. According to the report, the problem will cause the steering wheel to shift out of alignment with the wheels when the vehicle makes too sharp right or left turns before being re-centered. Think U-turns, etc.
The news comes just after
Toyota re-called over 3,800 Lexus sedans in the United States and another 4,500 world wide regarding the problem. They hope to get proper parts to dealers by mid to late June so they can get re-calls properly fixed and get the unsold models fixed so sales can resume.
It's been a rough year for Toyota after dealing with
law suits over a stuck accelerator on another vehicle model. It is unfortunate when a company starts getting greedy and producing quantitiy over quality. Hopefully this isn't the case with Toyota Motors, but there is a reason that the U.S. Congress is currently reviewing the U.S. auto safetly laws for the first time in ten years. It means someone is dropping the ball and
people are either being hurt because of the mistake or as, in some cases, killed.
If you have purchased one of these vehicles, either a 2009 or 2010 model, contact your Toyota dealership to see how to proceed with getting your vehicle properly maintenanced.
