Don't Drink and Drive on St. Patrick's Day; Kansas City Police and DWI Enforcement

St. Patrick's Day can be a great day for everyone.  It's the only day that for 24 hours, everyone is Irish.  For a lot of people it means hitting the bars and celebrating with a green beer or five.  Far too often, these all day drinking binges.

This year, the Kansas City Police have some new technology in order to help them try and limit the number of drunk drivers on the roads.  The KCPD unveiled a brand new DWI Enforcement Vehicle that will serve as a command center at DUI Checkpoints, not only this weekend but in the future.  The $400,000 vehicle was funded by the Missouri Department of Transportation and is built to last.

St. Patrick's Day produces more DUI arrests than just about any other day of the year in Kansas City.  But the fact is, drunk driving is a problem year round in Kansas City.  According to the KCPD, 63 percent of Kansas City's auto accident fatalities in 2010 were caused by a driver under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
