Driver hospitalized from Kansas City car accident after falling asleep at the wheel and hitting a tree

A van hopped a curb, hit a fire hydrant and smashed into a tree in Kansas City on Thursday morning after the driver fell asleep at the wheel resulting in a single car accident collision. The car accident happened around 8:30 on Thursday close to the intersection at 30th street and Benton Boulevard in Kansas City.  The driver suffered only minor injuries and spent part of Thursday recovering from his injuries in a local hospital. The intersection was flooded by water due to the damage to the fire hydrant but was quickly contained by emergency crews.

 

One of the most underrepresented causes of early morning and mid afternoon auto accidents is driver fatigue.  This is a condition that can be dangerous because the fatigue can take effect long before the driver realizes his or her body is getting tired.

 

Statistics show that 10-20% of fatal car wrecks and 5 to 10% of nonfatal car accidents are caused by drivers battling fatigue.

One way to break the spell is to mix up your daily driving routes.  Have two or three different routes you can take to work or home and mix it up from day to day to break that monotony of driving.
