Drunk Driving Accident Involving Officer Should Have Attention of Kansas City Police

Sometimes you can get lucky as a drunk driver-- but most times something bad can and will usually happen.  Drunk driving can be deadly because of the affect alcohol has on senses and reaction time.  Driving at night can be difficult enough but adding alcohol to the equation can put everyone on the road in jeapordy.

A Sheriff's Deputy was seriously injured when a drunk driver crashed into his police cruiser last week in Tampa, Florida. The accideent happened when a drunk driver collided with Deputy Jason Schein's cruiser around 12:30 a.m. at Forest Lakes Boulevard and Pine Avenue.  Unfortunately, the deputy suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Tampa police officials have said the deputy had pulled over another motorist for a routine traffic stop when Vera rear-ended the cruiser. The deputy suffered a severely broken arm in the accident.

Athorities say Vera's blood alcohol level was measured at .104 and .106 percent. Florida law presumes a driver to be impaired at .08 percent. He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, DUI with property damage and DUI with injuries. He was released from the Pinellas County Jail Saturday afternoon.

As experienced Kansas City Drunk Driving Injury Lawyers, want to remind you that if you're planning on going out for a drink and plan on driving, remember this-- the penalties against drunk drivers in the state of Kansas is about to get a lot tougher. A new law is expected to pass that would require ALL drivers charged with DUI, beginning with a first offense-- to get an interlock device on their car. Hopefully that alone is enough to get you to think twice before you drink an drive.
