Fairway, KS. Man Found to be Intoxicated after Accident with Kansas City Police Officer

A t-bone crash is one of the most deadly types of auto accidents.  On Sunday two Kansas City police officers found out first hand just how dangerous a Kansas City t-bone auto accident can be.  The officers were in a police cruiser on routine patrol heading eastbound on 35th Street when they were struck broadside by Frank J. Ross III who was traveling northbound on Euclid Avenue. 

The officer in the passenger seat took the brunt of the impact.  He was unconscious when rescuers arrived and had to be cut from the vehicle.  He suffered numerous broken bones and has a bruised lung.  According to experts, his recovery is expected to take approximately three months.  The officer driving the vehicle also sustained minor injuries in the accident, but was released from the hospital Sunday evening. 

Ross and his two passengers, one an assistant U.S. Attorney, had reportedly attended the Chief's game earlier that afternoon.  No one in that vehicle was injured.  Ross had a blood alcohol content of 0.185 according to court documents, more than twice the legal limit.  He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and driving while intoxicated.
