Fatal Crashes Increasing in Kansas City Metro; Down in Missouri
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the number of fatal car accidents in the state of Missouri have seen a decline since the numbers were last calculated in 2009. Unfortunately while the state-wide numbers are down-- the number of fatal crashes in Kansas City are rising.Recent Missouri Crash Stats:
- 1,257 deaths in 2005
- 878 deaths in 2009
- a 30% decrease.
Kansas City Crash Stats:
- 36 deaths in 20011
- 30% increase from 2010
According to Kansas City Police Chief Jim Corwin, 63 perecent of those fatal crashes involved a driver who was under the influence of alcohol and/or illegal drugs. The state of Missouri showed a 36% rate.
