Drivers traveling along Missouri U.S. 60 in southeast Missouri got an unexpected surprise on Monday when they encountered heavy, black smoke on the highway. The smoke, appears to have caused a
20-car pile-up that injured 33 people on Labor Day. According to authorities a farmer was burning trash when a nearby field caught fire. The fire sent heavy, black smoke onto the highway. The smoke lingered over the highway causing the giant pile-up.
Driving conditions always play a major factor in auto accidents. We frequently talk about weather and road conditions - especially after last year's winter - and driving concerns such as rain, wind, fog and other factors. What we don't have too much of, is man-made conditions, such as the smoke over the highway that appears to have caused this tragic accident.
