Have You Suffered a Head Injury as a Kansas City Athlete? Wii Fit May Help in Your Recovery

Chalk another one up in the 'good reasons to play video games' category.  If you're one of thousands in Kansas City who own a Wii video game system, you probably already know that it can be quite the physical work out.  More so than the traditional game controller systems like X-Box, PlayStation or even the old school Atari systems.

As the Wii has evolved, a focus has been put on delivering games that maximize the excerise factor that the Will paddle demands from players.  A couple of years ago, the Wii Fit was released.  The purpose of it was to give kids and adults a means of excersice utilizing a foam pad instead of a controller.

Team doctors for the University of Maryland football team have taken the usefulness of the excercise video game to a whole new level by using the Wii Fit game to help in rehabilitation from concussions and other head injuries.  While it isn't being used as a single monitor of head injury recover, the Wii Fit has programs such as yoga that can help determine balance scores and then test the athlete during recovery, comparing scores to those achieved when 100% healthy.

The Wii Fit test is also being used at the Ohio State University and the test is simple.  Athletes and players play the yoga and balancing test games.  Scores are recorded.  If a player is injured they are asked to repeat the tests, through yoga or balancing or even snowboarding or something fun.  If and when the scores return to close to where they were when healthy and as long as all other cognitive tests have come back okay, the player may be cleared to play again.

As Kansas City Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Attorneys, we know that no head injury should be taken lightly.  Head injuries often have long lasting effects that can go undetected for an extended period of time.  If you have suffered a serious or even minor head injury you should consult your doctor.  At Roswold Law Group, we encourage you and your kids to exercise daily and if the Wii or Wii Fit is your outlet, that is great.  But don't take the results to be the same as your doctor or neurologist's word.  The Wii Fit is considered just another tool in the belt, not a definitive bill of health.

If you or someone you love has suffered a traumatic brain injury as the result of an accident in Kansas or Missouri, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses.  Contact the experienced Kansas City Personal Injury Lawyers of Roswold Law Group before you try and take on the insurance company.

With over 15 years of experience in Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries including TBI, we can help you and your family determine how to proceed with your personal injury claim.  Call today and set up your free consultation.
