At Roswold Law Group, we know protecting your children is your number one priority. That's why we want to bring your attention to Burn Awareness Week, which is this week February6-12. Did you know that each year over 450 children under the age of 14 lose their lives because of a burn related injury? Many of these victims are under the age of 3. This is a shocking number and a good reminder why it is important to make your house safe to prevent fire or burn hazards.
In the kitchen, keep the children at least three feet away from hot surfaces such as the oven and stove top. Use spill proof cups when letting children drink hot drinks such as cocoa. When cooking, use the back burners as much as possible to make it harder for kids to reach. Keep electrical outlets blocked and out of reach of curious hands.
When you're in the bathroom, keep electrical items such as radios and hair dryers away from the sink and tub. When giving children a bath, keep your eye on the water to make sure it doesn't get too hot. If you have a faucet that doesn't allow you to control the temp. of the water, see about installing a special faucet that will automatically shut off when the water becomes too hot.
As experienced Kansas and Missouri Child Injury Attorneys we want to remind all parents to practice fire safety with their children and check for burn and fire hazards often. Teach them the importance of always practicing these safety tips in order to help prevent burns.
