The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Comission (CPSC) recalled 750 "Jet 9" bicycles on May 13th. The company designing and marketing the bicycles is Niner Bikes. Niner Bikers has cooperated with the CPSC to remove these bikes from consumer's homes.
The official recall occurred after consumers reported the frame of the bike to be cracking. In total, at least 53 separate consumers came forward to report that their "Jet 9" bibycle was beginning to crack at the welds that connet the aluminun parts that connect to make a triangular frame. Many even reported that the cracking occurred while they were riding the bicycle. To date, no serious injuries have been reported. But it goes without questioning, that if a consumer were traveling on the bicycle at high speeds when considerable cracking occurred, they could suffer from cuts, bruising, fractures, and even brain damage.
