Kansas and Missouri Heat Can be Fatal; a Reminder to Never Leave Your Child Unoccupied in Vehicle

A Texas couple has been arrested under charges of child endangerment after it was discovered they left their children in the family SUV for over two hours while they dontated plasma.  The child injury accident happened in Dallas, TX.  All of the kids were aged 5 years or younger and are expected to be okay.  They are now in foster care pending the results of an investigation.

As experienced Kansas City Child Injury Lawyers we know there were 50 child deaths last year in the United States and with the brutal August heat bearing down on us, it is important to remind all parents that it is never a good idea to leave your child in the car but the heat can make it a fatal decision.

We want to remind Kansas and Missouri parents that it takes less than 10 minutes for a child to die from heatstroke in a hot car. In fact, children being left in a hot car is the number one cause of death in non-car crash accidents. The main thing to remember is that often these types of accidents happen because the parents simply don't believe it could ever happen to them. Let's spread the word and remind all of our Kansas City parents to keep their kids safe during these hot summer months.

As this is something that happens far too often, here are some suggestions to help you remember to get your child out of the car before you forget:
  • Buy an alarm that is activated if you step too far away from a child strapped in a car seat.
  • Put the diaper bag or other child necessities in the front seat when the car seat is occupied.
  • Put other necessary items, such as your purse or briefcase in the back seat when you have a child in the car.
  • Use an alarm on your phone or office computer to remind yourself about your child in the car.
  • Place a large stuffed animal in the car seat when it is unoccupied, but when your child is in the car, move that stuffed toy to the front seat.

If you have a child who has suffered a serious injury in an accident in Kansas or Missouri, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses. Call our experienced Kansas City Personal Injury Attorneys. With over 15 years of experience in Child Injury Accidents, we may be able to help your family get through this difficult time.
