A light rail train conductor was fired after passengers aboard a locomotive caught and video recorded the driver texting with both hands instead of driving the moving train. One of the passengers caught the dangerous action with a cell phone and turned the footage over to a New Jersey news station. According to the New Jersey Transit, the conductor has since been removed from their job.
At Roswold Law Group, our experienced Kansas City Auto Injury Attorneys know that distracted driving comes in many forms. The best and safest way as always to avoid accidents is to avoid any and all distractions while driving. This includes but is not limited to texting and cell phone calls, eating, messing with your radio and even excessive conversation with passengers.
Distracted driving is one of the most common causes of all auto accidents. In 2008, it is believed that distracted driving caused at least 80% of all auto injury accidents. This according to the National Highway Traffice Safety Administration. The good news is that it means the increasingly high number of Kansas City auto accidents can be prevented if drivers are simply putting all of their attention into driving and keeping the cell phone put away.
Unfortunately, the dangers of texting and driving extends beyond cars, trucks and motorcycles. While Kansas City doesn't have a light rail system yet, it will before you know it and we will have to worry about what our friendly conducter is doing. If you are responsible for driving any large machine or vehicle, whether it be a train or a bus, please leave the distractions out of sight and out of mind. You need your eyes to be able to see any developments that may happen on the road, or in this case, the track head. Keep our lines of travel safe for everyone.
If you or a loved one has suffered a serious injury in an auto accident in Kansas or Missouri, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses. Contact the Kansas City Personal Injury Lawyers of Roswold Law Group.
