After two years of waiting, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (
CPSC) has officially released the
product recall of Tots in Mind Tents.
The first red flag was raised back in 2008 after a little boy was found dead laying underneath one of these tents. What had happened was awful. The little boy had been playing when a clip that holds up the rods and frames in the tent came undone. The child-sized tent had fallen on top of the little boy and his neck area quickly became trapped at the base of the tent between a metal rod and part of the tent's frame. The little boy was just two years old and so he was unable to escape this death trap. He was found later, in the same position. It is believed that he suffocated to death because the parts of the tent that trapped him obstructed his ability to breathe.
Now, the tents are being recalled and this recall is being made known to the public. To identify this tent, looked for labels or indicators of the Tots in Mind Tents. The play yard tent is held up by a clip at the top. If you believe that you own one of these tents, we urge you to contact the CPSC immediately. You must report your ownership and any suspicious instances of accident or potential accident to this government organization to ensure that another child does not suffer from a similar fate. After doing this, you can have your faulty product part--the clip--replaced. The company should have replacement clips available around the end of August or early September.
It is believed that 20,000 of these tents are owned by families across the nation. This terrible accident occurred in Vinalhaven, Maine in a front or backyard. Thus, we want to stress the importance of parental supervision as much as possible. This child may have suffered some injury because of this faulty product, but his life could have been saved if someone had been able to act sooner.
If you believe your child is the victim of a
faulty product and he or she is entitled to justice and compensation, we urge you to give our law office a call. The
Kansas City Child Injury and Accident Attorneys of Roswold Law Group are committed to protecting child injury victims, and helping them get on with their lives again.
