Kansas City Doctor Works to help Athletes and Families Following Traumatic Brain Injuries

At Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys, we see a variety of head injury cases as well as child injury cases on a pretty regular basis.  So it can be pretty scary when we see a case involving a head injury in a growing child.  Children are far more vulnerable to severe head injuries and the devastating effects because their brains are still developing.  More and more these days, young football players are putting themselves at risk of severe traumatic and often fatal head injuries.photo by Sabrina Staires

Take the case of a Spring Hill football player who passed away in October after suffering his second head injury in a three week period.  Nathan Stiles, a senior running back for the Spring Hill team, came off the field during his final game complaining he felt funny and his head "really hurt."  Stiles collapsed on the sidelines and was air lifted to a Kansas City hospital where he would lose his life because of a condition known as "secondary impact syndrome".

"Secondary impact syndrome" occurs when an athletes suffer a head injury before the symptoms of a previous head injury have subsided.  Protecting young athletes from these fatal injuries has become a priority for many neuro professionals all over this country.  One of them is right here in Kansas City.  Dr. Joseph Waeckerle spent 20 years working with the Chiefs and helped advanced many of the concussion injury programs in the NFL.  He know spends time as a volunteer for the Rockhurst High School football team where he works closely with the young atheletes during recovery time for any head injury.

As experienced Kansas City Brain Injury Lawyers, we encourage parents of student athletes in Kansas and Missouri to pay close attention to their child's behavior after their games.  Even the slightest bumps and knocks can cause even minor brain shifts that can lead to permanent brain damage months even years down the road.  We'd like to thank Dr. Waeckerle for his contribution to protecting the young athletes in Kansas City and hope his dedication inspires future generations to do what is right when faced with head injuries.

If you or a loved one has suffered a serious or traumatic brain injury as the direct result of an accident that happened in Kansas or Missouri, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses.  If this sounds familiar, you need someone in your corner you can trust.  Don't delay, contact our Kansas City Personal Injury Attorneys.
