Kansas City High Speed Car Chase Ends in Arrest

A high speed car chase ended with the arrest of the driver early Monday morning at I-670 and Genessee Street.  Police initially tried to pull over the vehicle at 41st Street and Wayne, but were led on a car chase with speeds over 70 mph that crossed the state line into Kansas City, Kansas.  The car was stopped by police utilizing "stop sticks" that flattened the tires of the vehicle in question.  The driver was arrested, but the two passengers in the vehicle were released.  It is not known why the police were trying to stop the car.

High speed car chases are a danger to all motorists on the roads because of the potential to cause motor vehicle accidents.  There has been a great deal of debate over whether police should engage in these chases due to the dangers presented to other drivers and pedestrians.  Time of day, traffic conditions, road conditions and location of the incident can all be additional factors for police to consider.
