A lot of people have childhood memories of riding around in the back of a pick up truck. The trip can feel quite liberating for a small child. Sometimes, it might be the only place to sit in a truck. However, did you know that as much fun as it is, it's illegal to ride in the back of a pick-up?
Disaster struck in south-west Missouri when an
83 year-old man fell from the back of a pick up truck near Greenfield, Missouri and was killed. The truck was traveling only around 10 m.p.h. when the passenger was thrown from the vehicle.
As
Kansas City Auto Accident and Personal Injury Lawyers, we know all too well the numerous things that can go wrong if the proper safety procedures aren't followed and this could not be more important than when we are talking about automobile safety.
The back of a pick up truck can be dangerous because there is nothing to keep you safe and stable; i.e. no seat belts. One bump could send you tumbling out and then you are looking at serious injury or even death when you hit the pavement or gravel that awaits below. The threat of injury doesn't end there because then you have to deal with any oncoming traffic that may be present. Good luck. It's best to be safe. Save the back of the truck for hauling things but make sure you are securing it as well.
