Kansas City Neighborhood Concerned About School Traffic and Parking

As Kansas City residents start thinking about sending their children back to school, one Kansas City neighborhood is worried about a particular school, Southwest Early College Campus.  The school is located at the intersection of Wornall Road and 65th Street in the heart of the popular Brookside neighborhood.  Earlier this year the Kansas City Missouri School District made the decision to shut down several schools because of declining enrollment.  This reduction is causing the students of Westport High School to be transferred to Southwest Early College Campus starting with the beginning of the 2010/2011 school year on August 30th.

The Brookside neighbors of Southwest Early College Campus are concerned because the drop off and pick up for the school buses will take place on Wornall Road a very busy street in the area.  Earlier this year we posted an article, "City Manager Names Worst Street in Kansas City, Missouri", which, of course, has Wornall Road at the top of the list.

In addition to the traffic and safety issues presented by the school's location, parking is also a concern for neighbors.  It seems that there is only one parking lot available to accomodate teachers, staff and students who choose to drive to the school.  School district officials have estimated that 50-70 percent of the students will utilize the bus systems, but even with that high number, there still is not enough parking.  The district is looking into other solutions.

At Roswold Law Group, even one serious injury to a child is one too many.  As Kansas City Auto Accident Lawyers, we know the safety of our children has to be our first concern when making changes to these schools.  Both the city and district officials need to work together to find viable solutions to the problems at hand.

Check out our article, "School Bus Accidents" to learn more about these tragic incidents.
