Kansas City Parents Encouraged to Monitor Children Following Flu Shot to Prevent Febrile Seizures

Do you have a child between the ages of 6 mos. and 2 years who has had a flu vaccine this winter?  If so, you may want to keep an eye on your child, even more than you may normally.  A rise in fever related seizures has doctors concerned that it could be related to FluZone, a common vaccine given to children to protect them from serious flu related symptoms.

 

There have been over 40 cases of febrile seizures since December 13th, 2010 and it is believed that the vaccine may be causing an unexpected reaction in children under the age of 2.  The Food and Drug Administration and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating this dangerous situation.
