Kansas City Police Chase Ends in Crash Killing Two

"Police Chase Ends in Crash".  This headline is becoming all too frequent in our Kansas City metro area.  Sunday morning, around 8:15 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle driving erratically on Ward Parkway in Kansas City, Missouri.  Authorities responded and found a maroon Mazda RX 7 speeding along Ward Parkway.  According to witnesses, the car was going in excess of 80 to 100 mph.  The Mazda turned east onto Meyer Boulevard and tried to outrun police.

In dashcam footage released by the police department today, police are shown calling off the pursuit just before the car disappeared over a hill.  The driver then lost control and crashed his vehicle into two poles and a tree.  The crash was so violent, the engine was separated from the vehicle and thrown approximately 100 yards past the crash site.  Both the driver, 26-year-old Matt Shacklett and the passenger, 29-year-old Trevor Olson, both of Overland Park were killed at the scene.
