In an attempt to limit the number of
injury accidents and fatalities in Kansas City, a recent DUI checkpoint in ended with KC police arresting 35 people for numerous violations. Kansas City police ran the checkpoint from 11 p.m. on Saturday night until about 4 a.m. on Sunday morning at 7712 Wornall in KC. They stopped a total of 621 cars in that time. The arrests included twenty DUIs, four for driving while revoked or suspended liscenses, two hazardous moving violations, two on possession of marijuana, another two for possession of drug paraphernalia, two were charged with minor in possession of alcohol, one for resisting arrest, two for unrelated Kansas City warrants and seven others for various traffic violations.
Every weekend all over the city, both on the Kansas and Missouri sides of the state line, police routinely set up checkpoints for DUI or even just to make sure you have a driver's license. These checkpoints aren't an attempt to ruin your fun or keep you from reaching your destination. They do it to keep the roads safe. In 2008, over 13,000 people lost their lives because of an
alcohol related accident, many right here in Kansas City. Thankfully the trend shows these numbers going down each year. One reason is because of these checkpoints.
