Kansas City Utilizes Flashing Stop Signs at Dangerous Intersections

As drivers, we all know the rules.  The octagon shaped red sign has one meaning - STOP!  Unfortunately, with all the distractions drivers face today, some stop signs aren't even noticed by drivers.  In an effort to improve safety at three Kansas City intersections stop signs equipped with flashing LED lights at each point of the octagon have been installed.  Public Works is conducting a test to see if the flashing lights improve visibility of the stop signs and encourage drivers to come to a stop at the intersection.

The intersections being tested are:  51st Street and Oak, 18th Street and McGee and Swope Parkway and Meyer Boulevard.  If the testing is successful, you may see other intersections with these flashing stop signs.
