Kansas lawmakers consider a ban on texting while driving

Kansas lawmakers are considering the passage of a law that expands the current ban on the reading and writing of text messages while driving. The law, which has been passed by the Senate, will be voted on by the House.

Currently, 23 states restrict texting while driving. Both Kansas and Missouri prohibit young drivers from texting while driving. The new law will prohibit all drivers in Kansas from sending or reading text messages while behind the wheel.
Violators will be fined $100 for a first offense. All subsequent offenses will be considered misdemeanors. Drivers who cause an injury accident while text messaging will also face misdemeanor charges.

One-third of Kansas traffic accidents are attributed to driver inattention. Cell phone use caused 394 Kansas accidents in 2008. Study after study has shown that distracted drivers are far more likely to cause an accident than drivers whose attention is focused on the road.

If you have been injured because of the reckless acts of a distracted driver, you are entitled to insurance compensation for all your injuries and losses.
