The annual GMAC Insurance Drivers Test results have been released and Kansas and Missouri drivers have bragging rights over most other states in the nation. In the annual test Kansas drivers scored higher than any other state, taking the top spot. Missouri, which averaged just slightly lower in test scores came in at number eight in the nation.
Unfortunately, the overall results indicate that one in five drivers in the United States does not know basic driving laws. Think one in five doesn't sound too bad? Well, that number translates into over 36.9 million American drivers that could not pass a basic driving test if that test was administered today.
So how does this information translate into accident statistics? Unfortunately, there has been no study done that we are aware of to compare knowledge on a written test to driving skills. It does seem logical, however, that knowledge of basic traffic laws can make a driver more aware of specific driving situations, and, therefore, less prone to accidents.
So how would you fare on the test? Take the test yourself at
