Kathies Kidz Day Care in Paola, KS. Shut Down After Operating Illegally During Investigation of Two Infant Deaths

Two infants deaths in less than a year has led the shut down of Kathies Kidz Day Care Home in Paola, KS.  The home day care center is owned and operated by Kathie Browning and located on North East and Kaskaskia streets in Paola.  Browning to be running the center illegally in the wake of the two unrelated death of children while in her care.  The first happened in April of this year, when a 4 month-old child died of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).  The center was not found at fault.

 

A few months later, a 3 month-old died, the cause of which has yet to be determined.  At the time, the center was taking care of 16 kids, including 5 infants, which is over the state's limit for a home operated day care center.  At the time, Browning offered to shut down during the investigation, although the state has been aware she was still running it and only caring for family members.  A complaint against the center last week alerted officials that Browning was once again taking other children into her care.  The state has forced as shutdown now and is launching a more in depth investigation into the activities and child care practices of Kathies Kidz Day Care.
