Leavenworth Man Racks Up 11th DUI; What Can Be Done to Deter Repeat DUI Offenders?

At Roswold Law Group in Kansas City, Missouri, we know no one is perfect.  People make mistakes.  It's what makes us human.  For some people it's answering their cell phone in traffic and causing an accident.  For others it's getting behind the wheel of a vehicle after they've been drinking.  What is important is how you behave after you make a mistake.  Do you learn from it?  Some people don't and continue to make that mistake over and over again.

Last Friday, Edsel Hess, a 66 year-old Leavenworth, Kansas man was convicted of DUI number eleven.  Yes, eleven.  Hess was arrested in July after witness to an car accident caused by Hess called police.  He is now facing up to one year in jail.

Hess isn't alone in the multiple repeat offender category.  Recently, we blogged about David Matthews, who is facing DUI conviction #7 and is also looking at a year jail time.

This has to stop.  Making a mistake and misjudging your alcohol intake is one thing.  Making that mistake over and over again and coninuing to put other people's lives in danger is another.  In Hess' July accident, no one was hurt.  Is one year in jail really going to get the message across?  The first ten didn't work.  Why will it this time?

As experienced Kansas City Drinking and Driving Accident and Injury Lawyers at Roswold Law Group, we stand behind law makers and those who enforce the laws but we feel its time that punishments get a little more severe for repeat offenders.  Drunk drivers should be considered very dangerous and its time the law treated them accordingly.

If you or someone you love has suffered a serious injury in an alcohol related accident in Kansas or Missouri, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses.  This includes money for medical bills, lost wages, legal fees, even burial expenses if you have lost a loved one.  Contact the Kansas City Personal Injury Attorneys of Roswold Law Group for help.

With over 15 years of experience in Auto Injury Accidents and Drinking and Driving Injury Accident cases, we may be able to assist you and your family through this difficult time.  Call our office today to set up your free consultation.
