On Wednesday, June 16, a young boy of only two years was thrown from a minivan, run over by a rear wheel tire, and left in critical condition. His mother was driving the vehicle which is allegedly borrowed and did not contain any safety seats for anyone of her three children. She was driving through a store parking lot when all of a sudden one of the minivan's sliding doors was thrown open. We are not sure if the door was not closed properly or if the door was closed properly but still came open. Regardless, the little boy should have been fastened into the proper safety restraint to prevent this horrific experience from ever happening to him.
About one month ago, we reported on another child injury situation where a young boy was thrown out of a car, over an 18-foot wall, and survived. But that accident could have been prevented if he had been strapped into a car seat, but he was not. He was not even strapped into a safety belt. Tragically, the driver and the boy's mother is very sorry, but she is being charged with child neglect.
Both in Kansas and Missouri, there are car seat safety and seat belt safety laws in play and these laws are stictly enforced. The laws vary by state, but visit our news story to learn more about this incident and the car seat and seat belt safety laws for both Kansas and Missouri.
