It's been a bit of a rough year for the University of Missouri football team, off the field anyway. Last Saturday in Columbia, Missouri, MU reserve defensive lineman Jimmy Burge was cited for drinking and driving after being pulled over for making an illegal left turn. An open beer can was discovered in the truck. Burge, who is 21, was ticketed for the open container and making an illegal turn. So far, there is no word from head coach Gary Pinkel on whether or not Burge would be facing disciplinary actions.
The citation comes just a month or so after two other players and an assitant coach were arrested for separate DWI charges. We have covered the alcohol problems with the Missouri football team in past blogs.
At Roswold Law Group, we know in college, most kids feel they are above the law. Unfortunately with college athletes that air of invincibility can force them to make bad decisions. Remember, you may be over the legal drinking age of 21 and maybe you're not legally drunk by state standards, but no matter what, riding around with an open container is illegal.
As experienced Kansas City Drunk Driving Accident and Injury Lawyers, we encourage all motorists in Missouri and Kansas use their best judgment when getting behind the wheel of a car or truck. If you have been drinking or are planning to drink find another way home. Call a friend, a family member, choose a designated driver or call a taxi. Getting to your destination safely should be your number one priority.
If you or someone you love has suffered a serious injury in an automobile accident caused by a drunk driver in Kansas or Missouri, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses. Contact the Kansas City Personal Injury Attorneys of Roswold Law Group.
