A Colorado woman wants answers after a Walgreens Pharmacy accidentally gave her the wrong medication for her child. The mother was expecting to pick up a prescription for Motrin flu medication for her two-year old son. When she got home she noticed that the bottle was smaller and the pills were different. She was shocked to learn the pharmacist had instead given her a prescription for levetiracetam, a powerful medication intended for epilepsy treatment.
This could have been very dangerous for this poor child. Levetiracetam lists potential side effects as hallucinations, fever and a drop in white blood cell count and is not intended for children under four. Every year, 1.5 million Americans are harmed because of wrong medication errors and prescription mistakes, including many right here in Kansas and Missouri.
Our experienced Kansas City Child Injury Attorneys are happy to know that the mother realized the mistake before giving the medication to her child.
