Multi-Vehicle Accident May Have Been Caused by Elderly Wheel-Chair Victim Suffering from Dementia

A three-vehicle crash in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was apparently caused by a man in a motorized wheelchair who allegedly rode into downtown traffic on July 12, 2011.  The multi-vehicle auto injury accident happened when the man rode down a ramp into the street. Several cars tried to stop and succeeded. One motorist however was unable to stop and hit one vehicle, which then caused a chain reaction.

Injuries were reported from the scene but it was not known how serious they were. The elderly man in the wheel chair, believed to be in his 60's or 70's was apparently confused and didn't know where he was. Police believe he may have suffered from dimentia.
