Obesity Linked to Brain Damage. Educate Yourself to Keep a Healthy Brain

New studies have shown that in middle age obese people, ages 30 to 40, brains are shrinking leading to dementia. Dementia is normal upon elderly people. But being young and obese seems to speed the brain aging process up.

Scientist don't know exactly what is causing the rapid aging of the brain among overweight people, but have a few ideas.

Fto Gene: This is a gene which has been found to control both brain functioning and weight gain. Some people have twice as much of the gene, which makes scientists believe this could be one of the many possible causes.

Being overweight has its disadvantages. With being overweight comes Sleep Apnea, Sleep Apnea is a common sleep disorder among obese people. Sleep Apnea is sudden pauses in breathing during sleep, which deprives the brain of oxygen, causing damage to the brain.

Eating foods high in fat can cause the brain to swell. Swelling of the brain makes it harder for the brain to function properly.

In the United States around one-third of people are obese. This includes people living in Kansas and Missouri and here in Kansas City.

Can the damage on the the brain caused by Obesity be reversed? No one knows. But it wouldn't hurt to try, so grab your running shoes and start eating a healthy diet.

At Roswold Law Group, our experienced brain injury lawyers know the devastating impact of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and we encourage you to educate yourself to keep your healthy brain.
