When the Law Breaks the Law: On-Duty Kansas City Police Officer Charged with DUI

Josette Young, an internal affairs officer for the Kansas City Missouri police department, was recently charged with a DUI as well as careless driving.  The reason this is such a scary situation is that the officer was on duty at the time the accident occurred.  A witness to the accident stated that the police cruiser was trying to pass another car heading northbound along Missouri 169 Highway when the cruiser slid through the median, went across the southbound lanes and came to rest off the road.

The officer investigating the accident reported that Young had bloodshot eyes, the odor of alcohol on her breath, was mumbling her words and vomiting following the accident.  Young also refused a blood test at the hospital where she was taken for treatment.  When the officer read Young her Miranda rights she refused to understand her rights.  At that point she was charged with careless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Fortunately, no one was injured in this case. Sadly, most drunk driving accident involve serious injury and even death - frequently to innocent victims.  As Kansas City Personal Injury Lawyers, we see the devastating results of drunk driving accidents.  Police officers, of all people, should be acutely aware of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol.
