Overland Park Officer Accidentally Shot in Leg; How Dangerous is Your Kansas City Job?

We should all know the dangers that surround us at our everyday work place.  Whether you work in an office, a fast food restaurant or a construction site, you should be aware of proper safety procedures and pratfalls that may befall you while on the job.  An accident involving a local police officer shows that you can get injured even when you feel the safest...

An on-duty police officer accidentally shot himself in the leg at the Overland Park Police Headquarters this week.  According to public reports, the accident happened around 12:30 a.m. at the end of the officer's shift.  The Overland Park police officer suffered a serious leg injury but has been treated and relased from a local hospital.  It was unknown what caused the weapon to unexpectedly fire.

At Roswold Law Group, we understand that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the discharge of this officer's gun, whether it was operator error such as forgetting to secure the safety switch or because of a faulty firing mechanism in the gun itself.

Our Kansas and Missouri Worker's Compensation Lawyers are glad the officer is expected to recover from this injury and that no one else was injured in this preventable accident.  We encourage all workers in Kansas and Missouri to follow all safety protocols while working in order to keep you safe from a serious injury accident.
