Tuesday morning police located a vehicle that had been reported stolen on Monday in what was described as a strong-arm robbery. Unfortunately, when the police attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver took off, leading to a
high speed police chase through Kansas City that covered both sides of the state line. Traffic, icy streets and even police stop sticks did not deter the driver as he covered over 20 miles of the metro area in a little over 40 minutes.
So what is a police officer to do in this situation? Well, it is often a very tough call, as the police don't know that a suspect is going to run until the chase begins. Police officers must make split-second decisions based on the danger the suspect may present to the general public, the time of day, traffic conditions, weather conditions, etc.
Unfortunately, the attorneys at Roswold Law Group are all too familiar with the resulting accidents that can occur during these high speed pursuits. As
experienced Kansas City Auto Accident Lawyers we deal with the damages to other vehicles, damages to personal property and most importantly, injuries to innocent victims. Remember, if you know a chase is happening or see one as you are driving, your best bet is to stay away. If possible, pull over and lock your doors until the danger is over.
