After all these years, it seems video games are finally becoming useful. At least doctors are finally coming around to acknowledging that some do have aspects that are proving to help patients recover from serious injuries including brain injuries such as PTSD.
In this case, one of the old classics, Tetris, is being used to help victims of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In a study conducted at Oxford University volunteers where shown a film containing disturbing and traumatic images and then asked to play either Tetris or a pub trivia game. Those playing Tetris seemed to recover quicker than those playing the trivia game. Clinical psychologists involved in the study caustion that the Tetris results won't carry over into other video games. It's not the video game playing itself.
