A rollover crash in Ray County just after midnight Monday morning left two people injured. Strangely, the crash appears to have been caused by the passenger according to the Missouri Highway Patrol. The 2007 Jeep was traveling along Missouri Highway 13, just past Route J when the driver, 27-year-old Heather M. Brown, and her passenger, 40-year-old Rodney S. Williams got into an argument.
Williams apparently grabbed the wheel from the driver and the Jeep headed towards a grassy median. The Jeep hit an embankment and overturned several times, ejecting Williams from the vehicle. Both victims were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
At Roswold Law Group we often talk about distractions when behind the wheel. This situation, however, brings to light an important aspect of safe driving, which is to never drive while you are angry. Arguments behind the wheel are a definite distraction, and one that should be avoided at all costs. In this case, the passenger appears to have caused the accident, but perhaps the accident would have never happened if they had resolved their differences before hitting the road.
