A trucking accident along I-70 in Kansas City, Kansas injured two young men Monday afternoon. The cause of the accident is under investigation, but both men in the car were injured, one critically. Both were taken to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the semi was not injured.
The average passenger car weighs in around 5,000 pounds, while the legal weight for a tractor-trailer is 80,000 pounds. That single fact should alert everyone that getting into an accident with a semi is a bad idea. Even a minor crash can cause devastating injuries due to the massive size of these trucks.
The report on this accident specifically mentions how difficult it was to remove the two injured men from their vehicle because of the damage to the car. The driver, was taken out fairly quickly and sent to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Rescue crews, however, had a formidable challenge removing the passenger from the car and ended up cutting the roof off of the car to get him out. The passenger was also sent to the hospital, but had sustained critical injuries in the accident.
