Fire crews from Fairmount and Stranger townships in Leavenworth county were called to the scene of a semi-tractor trailer fire on I-70 Monday afternoon. The big rig was heading eastbound on I-70 about 13 miles west of Lawrence when the trailer, which was hauling leather goods, caught fire. The driver of the truck was able to separate his truck from the trailer and pull it to safety while firefighters extinguished the flames in the trailer. Traffic was reduced to one lane heading eastbound and onlookers caused significant delays in the westbound lanes. Forturnately, there were no injuries reported.
At Roswold Law Group, our
Kansas City's Personal Injury Attorneys always want to promote safety along our Kansas and Missouri roadways. Having a load catch fire isn't a particularly common mishap, but as with most trucking accidents, the results can be devastating.
In this case the quick response of the driver and the fire crews kept the situation under control and minimized the impact to the Kansas and MIssouri motorists traveling I-70 on Monday. Let's use this accident, one without serious injuries, to remind all of the drivers through the Kansas City metro area of the dangers inherent in sharing the road with these large trucks.
