September 18 - 24, 2011 is National Child Passenger Safety Week
Kansas and Missouri, like all of the U.S. have laws that require children be properly restrained in cars. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that it has been shown that car seats, including booster seats, provide protection for children in a motor vehicle collision and save lives. Specifically, between 1975 and 2009, over 9,000 children's lives were saved when child restraints were used.September 18-24 is National Child Passenger Safety Week. The mission of the campaign according, to the NHTSA, is to bring public awareness to the importance of using appropriate child restraints in a motor vehicle, whether that means using an infant seat, a 5 point harness forward facing seat, a booster seat or just a seat belt. It is important to use proper restraints every time you are in an automobile. The campaign ends on Saturday, September 24 with National Seat Check Saturday. At that time, you can take your car seat to a certified safety technician, such as the highway patrol, for a free inspection.
