A tragedy at the Lyon County Fair near Emporia, Kansas left a
Shawnee teen dead following an accident at the fair's Mud-A-Thon event. The 17-year-old girl and her friend were watching the event from the back of a pick-up truck when a modified pick-up participating in the event went through a guard rail, went airborne and hit the pick-up where the two teens were sitting. Both teens were taken to an area hospital. One was treated and released, while the Shawnee teen was moved to a Wichita hospital where she was later pronouced dead.
First, the lawyers at Roswold Law Group want to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of this Shawnee teen. An accident of this nature seems so preventable, and we encourage authorities to delve into the cause of the mishap during their investigation. As
Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys, we understand there are many safety issues involved in this type of accident: skill of the driver, proper fencing to protect participants and spectators, proper maintenance of equipment, condition of the track, parking at the fair grounds etc. Inattention to any of these details can lead to serious injury, or in this particular case, death.
Most of us do not think of auto accidents occurring while attending events at the county fair, but accidents can happen anywhere. Let's remember to always be careful, especially when around motor vehicles of any kind.
